Short answer
The Viking oven repairs we do most are a bake igniter on gas ovens, a bake or convection element or temperature sensor on electric ovens, a door lock that sticks after self-clean, hinges and gaskets on heavy doors, and convection fan motors. Control boards fail too, but we only replace one after the parts feeding it test good.

Self-clean: the hardest hour in an oven’s life
A self-clean cycle drives the oven far above cooking temperatures to burn residue to ash. It is effective, but it is also when an older oven’s weakest part tends to fail — a thermal fuse, the temperature sensor, the door-lock motor, or a control relay. Ovens that quit during or right after self-clean are a classic repair call.
If your oven is older and you are worried about it, clean by hand as your use-and-care guide describes — Viking’s manuals say not to use commercial oven cleaners or foil in a self-clean oven, and not to scrub the door gasket. If self-clean won’t start, the door is usually not shut tightly enough to latch. If the cooling fan does not run during a clean, cancel the cycle and call for service.
After a clean, the door stays locked until the oven has cooled. If the power went out during the cycle, wait for it to come back — the lock releases by itself. Some models also have a high-limit switch that resets only when power is cut; if the oven is completely dead after a clean, switching its breaker off for a minute may bring it back. If it happens again, a part needs replacing.

Wall ovens: what to expect on the visit
Wall ovens are built into cabinetry, and some repairs — elements at the back, convection motors, wiring — mean sliding the oven partly out of its cabinet. Viking wall ovens are heavy; we support the oven, protect the trim and the cabinet face, and re-secure the oven when we reinstall it. Double ovens and combinations with a microwave or warming drawer are handled the same way.

My Viking oven door is locked after self-clean. What do I do?
Let the oven cool completely — the lock stays engaged until the oven is below a safe temperature. After a power cut, wait for power to return and it releases by itself. If it still stays locked once cool, the lock motor or latch switch has usually failed. Do not force the door.
